About Edgeworth Memorial Neighbourhood Centre

Edgeworth Memorial Neighbourhood Centre (EMNC) is a Community Service, not-for-profit organisation based in Northwest Lake Macquarie, NSW.

We exist to support the local community of Edgeworth and surrounds, with a focus on young people and families looking for connection, resources and support.

The Centre can provide information, advice and referral to other local services, social connection through community events and support services such as free groceries, free information sessions or training and individual support or counselling for young people and parents.

Our programs include playgroup, community pantry, a craft group, community garden, yoga and volunteer opportunities.

Our Youth Service supports local young people and families through youth recreational activities, case management and counselling, education and skills programs, peer support and mentoring, and school holiday activities. We also have community spaces available for hire including a large community hall with a capacity of approximately 100 people.

EMNC is primarily funded by the Department of Communities and Justice and The Office of Responsible Gambling NSW. As a small not-for-profit organisation, we also actively seek community donations, sponsorship opportunities and a range of community grants.

Our team consists of six employees and approximately 20 volunteers who all share the vision of enhancing support, connection and activity in the local community.

Historic Community Hall & War Memorial

The building was founded as the ‘Young Wallsend Community Hall in 1955, donated to the community by The Joint Coal Board and funded by contributions from locals.

The hall was renovated in 1984 and renamed Edgeworth Community Hall. The inclusion of a war memorial plaque led to the naming as Edgeworth Memorial Neighbourhood Centre.

Inside the centre, taking pride of place on the stage, are two timber honour rolls: the Young Wallsend Great War Roll of Honour and the Young Wallsend Second World War Roll of Honour. Both rolls reference a previous name for Edgeworth, Young Wallsend.
